"In the Frame" Summer 1999   page 2

Welcome to the new, bigger, more informative edition of “In The Frame”.

To make it easy for all our customers to find their way around the new format, we have colour coded our news into four different market sectors.

We believe that each article will be of interest, regardless of which market you are in, but if you’re short of time and need to pick and choose, simply follow your colour!

Welcome to this new-look, extended issue of “In The Frame”! In the past, we have always concentrated our news on the framing industry, for which we produce Colourmount, but we also manufacture a diverse range of other converted paper and board products, that many of our customers don’t even realise we make.  This extended issue of In The Frame is designed to let all our customers know what Slater Harrison do, and how our ideas can help you and your business.

There is a great deal of activity in our industry at the moment.  We have recently announced a venture of mutual co-operation with one-time competitors Tullis Russell (see front cover) that will bring even wider choice to all our customers, particularly in the education and paper merchant markets, whilst stabilising the overall market for the future.

Other exciting developments include the expansion of our Educational Products division and the launch of the first products under the new brand name, Educraft.  A full range of Inkjet paper in genuine Day-Glo colours is also recently available and being promoted very heavily in the trade.

Past recipients of  “In The Frame” will have become accustomed to the invaluable advice of Pete Bingham, our expert framer.   Over future issues we intend to continue to bring business ideas and advice to all our readers, especially with regard to how sales can be achieved or improved. Where customers have ideas that they are willing to share with others, we will print them, in the hope that this will improve business prospects for us all.  If you have any success stories that you would like to share, please let us know.

One of the ongoing themes of the articles in this issue is our ability to produce bespoke products, tailormade to your needs. This is an area we are always interested in expanding so, if you would like to discuss your bespoke product requirements, please get in touch.

Happy reading!

Fine Art Trade Guild seeks Framers of Distinction for 2000

The very successful competition run by Slater Harrison and Colourmount last year to find Framers of Distinction all over the United Kingdom is to be brought under the wing of the Fine Art Trade Guild’s Annual Awards for the year 2000.

The Framer of Distinction competition which measures the quality of customer service, generated a great deal of interest from framers throughout the UK, and was eventually won in some style by Acorn Arts of Doncaster.

The competition will follow the same format under the Guild: entrants will be asked to complete a written questionnaire for analysis, and will then be telephoned in order to create a shortlist of potential winners.

A mystery shopper with a genuine framing commission will visit all the shortlisted framers and the final judging will be based on the level of service and advice given to the mystery shopper.

Guild MD, Rosie Sumner welcomed the new award:  “It is well structured, assesses framers objectively, and will fit in neatly with our revised Guild Commended Business and Guild Exemplar Business Scheme.” Entries will be requested from framers this summer and the presentation to the 1999 winner will be made at the Annual Awards Dinner in Stratford on 13th May, 2000.  Slater Harrison and Colourmount will continue to sponsor the competition.

Andrew Branton, Market Development Manager of Colourmount, is delighted with this development: “The Framer of Distinction was a bold initiative for us last year and it was extremely successful. With the Fine Art Trade Guild involved, we hope even more framers will enter and that it will become as much a part of the framing industry as the other annual awards.
